Martial arts have always been a great choice when it comes to learning moves for self-defense. There isn’t one martial art that is better than another for self-defense, and to gain the best knowledge on the subject, one needs to incorporate different forms of martial arts into their self-defense repertoire.
Muay Thai is on the very best forms of martial arts used for self-defense. It is considered a hard form of martial arts, and is like many other forms of kickboxing. It uses punches, knee and elbow strikes, and kicks. Foot jabs are very common in this martial art, and kicks are usually blocked with the person’s own leg. This martial art requires much dedication and effort, and is not for people who wish to learn only for recreation.
Today, one of the most popular martial arts techniques for self-defense is known as Krav Maga. Used by the U.S. military, as well as the Israeli military, it is more focused on the immediate survival of the person being attacked, and teaches its students real life tactics to use against an attacker. Unlike many other martial arts, it is usually quite easy to learn, and can be mastered in a short time period. It also teaches people how to avoid going into shock from a violent attack, and the way to save their lives, as well as the lives of those they care about. It is also used by many as a form of exercise, and assists in total body conditioning. Krav Maga teaches effective techniques to defend against holds and grabs, punches, knees, kicks, and elbows. They have drills that are based on real life situations to prepare their students for when and if they are ever involved in an attack. It is a form of hand-to-hand combat that utilizes movements that are instinctive and not complicated. Its students are also taught the proper way to defend from weapons, like knives, guns, and sticks. It teaches its students to counter attack as fast as they can, and attack points of the body that are the most delicate, like the eyes, jaw, groin, throat, etc. it also teaches its students to always stay aware of what is going on around them in the midst of an encounter, so they can find ways to get out, stay on their guard for other attackers, and also search for items that can be used to aid in the attack.
Training for Krav Maga is a blend on aerobics and anaerobics. Students are taught how to deal with real life situations, and drills are done in this manner. People that take classes like these are also taught the right way to stay focused on their surroundings, and how to avoid potential violence if possible. Since the students are put in real life dilemmas, they will have an easier time reacting if they are confronted by violence while on the street.
Every martial art form is helpful when learning self-defense, and the application of different forms of martial arts makes the chances of surviving an attack much more likely.
